Urban Inspiration

When it comes to taking photos on your big day, look around and get inspired by elements nearby. These couples were inspired by graffiti and words around them. We love how they used their environment to create great photos.

Trash the Dress

A typical bride spends years fantasizing over her dream wedding dress. She spends months visiting every bridal boutique within a four-hour drive in search of 'the one.' And when she finds it, she often spends thousands of dollars to make it hers. But when her wedding day finally arrives, she usually wears her wedding dress for less than 10 hours. TOTAL!

More and more brides are beginning to realize the sheer insanity of spending so much time, energy and money on a dress that they will wear for half a day. So they do what any other level-headed gal would do-- they trash their dress! The 'Trash the Dress' session is becoming a popular event in which the couple goes out with their photographer after the wedding day and takes all of the pictures they couldn't take on their wedding day for fear of getting their wedding duds dirty. And we're talking dirty. Really dirty. D-I-R-T-Y.

Seriously dirty. They call it 'Trash the Dress' because your dress is often trashed by the end of it. Just the idea of wrecking a beautiful wedding dress sends some women running in horror. But others find it liberating to trash every last penny out of their dress. What do you think? Love the idea or hate it? Will your wedding dress be trashed in the name of some truly unique wedding pics or will it stay well-preserved in a dusty box in the attic?

Ready For Your Close Up

There are a few reasons why make up artists and hair stylists are helpful on the big day.

A make up artist and a hair stylist can help you achieve a cohesive look for your bridal party so that your photos are the best they can be. While no one has to have the same make up or the same hair style, it is nice to talk with your make up artist ahead of time about the general look you're going for. Classic? Dramatic eyes and a nude lip? Red lips and natural eyes? Slicked back hair or naturally loose and wavy? What is your look? Tell your artist and stylist and they will be able to customize each look for the skin tone and face shape of each of your bridesmaids.

Giving yourself (and your attendees) a moment to sit in "the chair" and be pampered is a great gift! It gives each person a moment to relax, maybe sip some champagne and feel glamorous. Who doesn't want to feel like a princess?!

Some tips for making the getting ready process stress-free:

*Discuss ahead of time with your bridesmaids. Tell them about the look you're going for, and have them look at some pictures and have a general idea about what they want for their hair style. This way, the stylist will be able to use the time efficiently. Same goes for make up.

*Ask the stylist and the make up artist how long it takes for each person. Create a schedule for the professionals and your bridesmaids. This helps to ensure that everything runs on time. The last thing you want on your wedding day is to be late because a bridesmaid's hair wasn't done. Be sure to include a time slot for lunch!

*Make your checks out ahead of time and put them in an envelope. If you're concerned you'll be frazzled on the big day, delegate the maid of honor to hand the envelopes to the appropriate professional. Don't forget to tip!

*Get a trial for yourself for hair and make up ahead of time. Bring pictures with you if you have an idea of what you want. This is the time to experiment with looks if you're not sure what you want. If your dress is strapless, wear a strapless top so you can get a feel for how the hair and make up will look in your dress. Bring someone close to you for some moral support. Don't forget your camera! Take pictures and make sure you like the way you look in the pictures. Sometimes make up may look great in person but not photograph well.

Will you be ready for your close up?
