Same Love

One of my favorite rap artists- Macklemore, and Seattle-based singer Mary Lambert teamed up to drop one of the most beautiful songs with an equally beautiful message about equal marriage rights called Same Love. Hope you enjoy.

Gay Marriage and Comic Books

What do gay marriage and comic books have in common? Astonishing X-Men #51, that's what! Marvel Comics has announced that the upcoming comic book, set to be released on June 20th, will feature a gay wedding as part of the story line. Apparently, the Canadian superhero Northstar has been openly gay since he "came out" in 1992. Now he's back-- and planning to marry his long-term partner, Kyle, in the upcoming issue. Marvel Comics editor-in-chief, Axel Alonso explained the bold move, stating, "When gay marriage became legal in New York State, it raised obvious questions since most of our heroes reside in New York State.... Our comics are always best when they respond to and reflect developments in the real world. We've been doing that for decades, and this is just the latest expression of that." Astonishing indeed!

Etiquette Question for Same-Sex Weddings

My partner and I are engaged! How do we decide on the wording for our invitations?

We think you need to write what you feel fits you and your partner best. Here are some options:

1. Traditional.

Mr. and Mrs. ___________ (bride's parents) request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter ___________ (name) to ______________ (fiancee).

*Traditionally, the bride's parents were listed here implying that they were paying for the wedding. If you'd like to follow tradition, you can write the names of the parents who are giving the wedding. If both sets of parents are giving the wedding, you can list them alphabetically. Then just fill in the appropriate names in the spaces provided.

2. Contemporary.

___________ (partner's name) and _____________ (partner's name) request the pleasure of your company as they unite in marriage....

*This format is a little more modern, and let's guests know right off the bat who is getting married to whom. Simple and sweet.

Once you figure out which format to use, don't forget the most important information: the date, the time and the location!! Oh, and the RSVP date! Happy planning!

Hundreds of Same-Sex Couples Wed in New York

Seventy-seven year old Phyllis Siegel and Connie Kopelov, 85, were one of the first same-sex couples to wed yesterday at 9:05am in New York. They have been together for 23 years. This photo just takes our breath away. We are so proud of New York, and hope that the other starts soon follow suit.

Breaking News: NY State Passes Gay Marriage

History was made tonight as the state of New York legalized same-sex marriage with a vote of 33 ayes and 29 nays. New York is now the sixth state (and largest) to pass same-sex marriage. The bill will go into effect in 30 days. We are one step closer to equality for all.
