Gay Marriage and Comic Books

(Source)

What do gay marriage and comic books have in common? Astonishing X-Men #51, that's what! Marvel Comics has announced that the upcoming comic book, set to be released on June 20th, will feature a gay wedding as part of the story line. Apparently, the Canadian superhero Northstar has been openly gay since he "came out" in 1992. Now he's back-- and planning to marry his long-term partner, Kyle, in the upcoming issue. Marvel Comics editor-in-chief, Axel Alonso explained the bold move, stating, "When gay marriage became legal in New York State, it raised obvious questions since most of our heroes reside in New York State.... Our comics are always best when they respond to and reflect developments in the real world. We've been doing that for decades, and this is just the latest expression of that." Astonishing indeed!
