DIY: Cat-Eye Makeup

Want to look like a sexy bombshell on your wedding day? How about painting on some cat eyes? The cat eye makeup trend is making a serious comeback from its original heyday in the 1960s. The look flatters almost every eye shape and adds length and dimension by creating a feline-like upturn at the ends. Though the difficulty level can be a little daunting, we have a few tricks that will help you get the look. Meow!

The first thing you need to do is gather the right tools. You'll need:

  • scotch tape
  • black kohl eyeliner
  • black mascara
  • a good angled shadow brush
  • a liner blending brush or a Q-Tip
  • light beige shimmery eye shadow like MAC Honesty
  • dark gray eye shadow like MAC Print
  • dark brown eye shadow like MAC Club
  • white eye shadow/highlighter like MAC Mylar

1. So the first thing you want to do is create a line by placing a 1-inch a piece of Scotch tape on the outside corner of your eye. You want the tape to graze your lower lash line and go straight out at an angle. Yes, this feels a little awkward but trust us, the results will be worth it!

2. Next, use your shadow brush to apply your shimmery beige eye shadow all over your lids and up to your brow.

3. Grab your gray eye shadow and apply all over the lid with a shadow brush, extending outward toward the tape line.

4. Next, apply the black kohl eyeliner to your top lashline starting at the inside corner and extending to the outer corner. Use the liner brush or Q-Tip to gently smudge the liner and pull it from the inside corner of your eye outward and up the tape line. Remember, the higher up the tape line you drag your liner, the more dramatic the cat eye effect will be.

5. Next, gently remove the tape. Start out by grabbing the corner of the tape below your eye and slowly peeling upward. This will reveal a sharp line that defines your cat eye. Don't worry if this removes some of your other makeup. You can touch-up later.

6. Now, starting at the outer corner of your eye, use your smudging brush or Q-Tip to bring some of that eye liner under the eye. Do this gradually so you don't end up with raccoon eyes!

7. The next step is to use the shadow brush to add some of the brown eye shadow to just the outer crease of your eye.

8. Next, add a bit of shimmery white shadow to just the inside corner of your eye to brighten and highlight.

9. Lastly, apply a couple of coats of mascara to make your peepers pop!

 Et voilà! Beautiful cat eyes!
